written in 2008 when my friend roger, a youth pastor in milwaukee wisconsin, asked me to lead worship for a youth retreat. the theme of the retreat revolved around the prodigal son passage, so naturally i started thinking along the lines of the story which comes from luke 15. i wanted to juxtapose the different feelings of the two different brothers between the two verses (verse 1 being the younger brother, and verse 2 being the older brother) with the chorus which describes the father's reception of both
